- Main Features
- Cryogenic Service Design: Extended bonnet (stem extension) isolates the stem packing from the cryogenic fluid, preventing ice formation and ensuring proper packing function at low temperatures.
- 2-Piece Body Construction: Compact design with bolted body joint for easy maintenance. The end cap can be removed to access internal components.
- Floating Ball Design: Under pressure, the ball shifts against the downstream seat, providing reliable shut-off.
- F304 Stainless Steel: Offers good corrosion resistance and low-temperature toughness, suitable for a wide range of cryogenic media.
- PCTFE / PEEK Seats: Provides excellent low-temperature sealing performance with enhanced wear resistance and dimensional stability at cryogenic temperatures.
- Anti-Static Device: Ensures electrical continuity between ball, stem, and body to prevent static charge buildup.
- Blowout-Proof Stem: Stem is designed to prevent ejection under pressure.
- Purge Port (Optional): Provisions for back-venting or purge connections available for safety in oxygen or hazardous services.

9 | Extended Bonnet | F304 (provides thermal isolation) |
10 | Handle / Operator | Stainless Steel or Carbon Steel with insulation (optional) |
*Note: PCTFE is preferred for cryogenic applications down to –196°C due to its excellent low-temperature sealing properties; PEEK is suitable for higher-pressure cryogenic applications with good wear resistance.*
- Seat Material Comparison
Seat Material | Plage de température | Characteristics | Typical Application |
PCTFE | –196°C ~ +80°C | Excellent low-temperature sealing, low permeability, good dimensional stability | LNG, liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen |
PEEK | –196°C ~ +250°C | Higher mechanical strength, wear resistance, suitable for higher pressures | High-pressure cryogenic, cycling service |
PTFE (Not Recommended) | –196°C ~ +80°C | Prone to cold flow and deformation at cryogenic temperatures; not preferred for critical cryogenic service | General purpose only |

- Cryogenic Service Considerations
Consideration | Requirement |
Material Toughness | Materials must pass Charpy impact tests at service temperature (e.g., –196°C for F304) |
Extended Bonnet | Minimum height ensures packing temperature remains above freezing point of moisture in the air |
Seat Material | PCTFE or PEEK required for reliable low-temperature sealing; PTFE is not recommended due to cold flow |
Leakage Rate | Cryogenic valves typically require bubble‑tight shut‑off (helium leak testing often specified) |
Thermal Cycling | Valve design must accommodate thermal contraction and expansion without loss of sealing |
Packing | Low‑temperature packing (e.g., PCTFE or PTFE) must be used to maintain seal flexibility |
Antistatique | Essential to prevent static discharge in flammable cryogenic services |
- Operating Guidelines
- Orientation: Typically installed with stem vertical; extended bonnet ensures packing remains at safe temperature.
- Thermal Conditioning: Before introducing cryogenic fluid, the valve should be slowly conditioned to avoid thermal shock.
- Opération: Handwheel operation may become stiff at cryogenic temperatures due to ice formation on the extended bonnet; this is normal and does not indicate packing failure.
- Maintenance: Extended bonnet valves allow packing replacement without removing the valve from the line, as the packing is located above the thermal isolation zone.
- Typical Applications
- LNG Infrastructure: Liquefied natural gas receiving terminals, loading arms, vaporizers, and storage tanks.
- Air Separation Units (ASU): Liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, and liquid argon handling.
- Petrochemical: Ethylene and propylene plants with cryogenic processes.
- Cold Boxes: Cryogenic process modules in gas processing facilities.
- Food & Beverage: Liquid CO₂ and nitrogen freezing systems.
- Medical: Liquid oxygen and nitrogen storage and distribution.
